US listening station Teufelsberg on Ilford HP5

we visit teufelsberg on a bleak and cold berlin day, perfect for some ilford hp5 medium format film.

I thought the scene would be perfect for some grainy and character full Ilford HP5 film, and I was right. Interesting how some of the shots are really grainy whilst others are super sharp, I think this is dependent on both the exposure but also the actually lighting of a scene, although it was pretty consistent and flat given the cloud cover. This post won’t have a lot of commentary because frankly there is not a huge amount to say about an abandoned listening station now turned into a park and art centre with graffiti everywhere. Whilst colour would have been nice for the graffiti, I think black and white captures the scene much better. I shot two rolls of HP5 on my Hasselblad and quite happy with how some of the shots came out.

More on the interesting history of this Cold War site here.

overall observations

This is definitely an interesting place to visit and the walk there from the train station is quite nice as you go through a wooded area first and finish going up quite a long steep hill to get to this park. The history of the listening station is really interesting, although I find it a pity there is so much graffiti everywhere, specially on the actual listening station itself. Worth a visit if you’re in Berlin on a Sunday with nothing else to do!

Thanks for checking my post out!
